Krispy Kreme @ Ayala

the krispy kreme virus has officially reached the ayala atmosphere! seriously, this calls for a diabetes red alert! haha. im not really a big krispy kreme fan. aside from the free diabetes doughnuts, they are too hyped up. and the price? way over the top (kuripot mode :P) ! i know a lot of people may bring their posters outside my house and rally for saying these comments but it's true. dont u think? ok ok...it's good to go sugarhigh once in a while...and krispy kreme should be one of the top choices! so look no further upper east siders ( i mean makati boys and girls :p)...KK dougnuts are now available at the ground floor of Jaka bldg (in front of PBCOM Tower and Madrigal bldg) Ayala Avenue. it's not yet too late to fall in line (i seriously mean FALL IN LINE...the line's too long that you may feel your betting on the LOTTO 207M jackpot! haha.)

For some inspiration, note that...

* 1st Customer wins 1 YEAR SUPPLY OF ORIGINAL GLAZED DOUGHNUTS (1 dozen per week)
* 2nd Customer wins 6 MONTHS SUPPLY OF ORIGINAL GLAZED DOUGHNUTS (1 dozen per week)
* 3rd Customer wins 3 MONTHS SUPPLY OF ORIGINAL GLAZED DOUGHNUTS (1 dozen per week)
* 4th to 300th Customers wins 1 MONTH SUPPLY OF ORIGINAL GLAZED DOUGHNUTS (1 dozen per week)

Must-Read: Sex, Lies and Handwriting

are you sure that the people around you don't have the tendency to lie to you? Or even kill you? Scary isn't it? Just the thought of someone i know killing me gives me the creeps!

will they stab me? shoot me? strangle me? or even hit me on road (eeek..ROAD KILL!)?

what you is what you get....is SO NOT TRUE! you can actually discover if a man is hiding in the closet just by looking at his handwriting! GAY-DAR enhancement! this book will teach you how!
wuhooo!

this book is definitely a must-read! awaken the profiler in you and make the best choices for friends and lovers. our fates are already drawn but it wouldn't hurt to know the inner workings of the human mind right?

Some more interesting facts [got this from the author's (Michelle Dresbold)] site.

...Did you know…

- That the way you write a single letter, the personal pronoun “I,” reveals volumes about your family background, inner self, and can give you insight into your relationship with your parents?
- That there are dangerous secrets embedded in Osama bin Laden’s signature?
- That you can identify someone with an explosive temper by the way he dots his i’s?
- That size does matter (the size of your handwriting, that is) The size — as well as the shape, slant, and slope — of your handwriting tells a great deal about you.
- That “too perfect” handwriting may indicate that a writer is at risk for an emotional breakdown?

So..the next time you meet a stranger, let them write something on a piece of paper and evaluate first before you mingle. haha. looks weird..but safety first haha! :P

Shoe Fantasies: Topshop

Do you remember the time when there was only one Topshop store in Manila?
That was 6-7 years ago. I miss that branch. Not only was it the biggest Topshop in the country (around the same size of an average Zara store), but it also used to offer loads of clothes/bags from Miss Selfridge.
And the shoes. I miss the real shoes. I mean the ones that give you a headache, vertigo.
Pardon my taste, but I appreciate the extra lift.
Topshop please, bring back the wide accesories selection you used to have.
Please?! ;p

Can you feel it!!!!??? Doesn't the photo make you feel 90s nostlagic (happy)?! I don't know about you, but when I heard they are doing a 90210 remake, I was well, ecstatic (not exactly because of the new show, but more from the thought that Hollywould felt the same craving for some old school angst-filled,teenage drama.I've been looking for a dvd copy of this show for months!!). Any tv-addicted twentysomethings would know that before Dawson's Creek, The OC, One Tree Hill, this zip code ruled the scandalous high school tv world!!

Must-Read: Twilight

"When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it's not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end"

I've been meaning to read Twilight for a while now. I was just finding the perfect excuse to buy the book( and I found one, Powerbooks is currently on SALE). I must admit that I'm half embarrased to admit that I read lot of young adult fiction. But then again, 3 years ago I had this guilty pleasure called Gossip Girl. I own a plastic-covered copy that I hardly shared with anyone. Now, thanks to the wonderful machine called mass media, GG has gained a serious following from all ages! I'm finally out of the closet.

I should tell you that I'm no lit expert. I read the classics, a lot of non-fiction, history, finance, even the almanac. But mostly I enjoy light reading(translate: chick lit). If
1. I finish reading something in one sitting
2. I remember quotes from it involuntary

Then that makes a good book for me. Twilight is gooood for me.

I started reading it at around 1 am. Forced myself to sleep at 4am. Woke up at 11:30. By 4pm I'm done reading it. Now I'm writing a post about it. It's a New York Times Best-seller, but it's not exactly critically-acclaimed. Yes it's predictable- but most forbidden love stories are, right? To appreciate the book, I say that you forget the hype, curl up on your bed, bear in mind that the book is a young adult fiction( a love story at that) and just read.

And if you're anything like me e.g. part hopeless romantic, part delusional(hahaha). Go get this book, quick! (while it's still discounted! it's worth less than Php300).
Twilight is a perfect Saturday evening to Sunday morning reading.

But if you don't really like love stories, don't read it.
It's not that cheesy by the way.

Weekend Surfside Poser

yep that's me in the pic loooking like a pro.hahaha

Have you seen Blue Crush? Well I have- at least a couple of times. I can't really say that I liked the movie, because frankly, I don't remember its plot. *wink* However, I do recall that everytime I'm done watching it, I feel the strong(!) urge to wear my sportiest-looking bikini, hit the beach, and you know, be Kate Bosworth.

But, as many of you are aware of by now, I don't know how to swim. Actually I can, a little bit. But my swimming skills aren't exactly Bosworth-y. I don't take lessons simply because I am a firm believer in life jackets! Too bad Kate, Cameron, and all other surfer chicks never wear it. Oh well Thank Pete! Because if they did, that would look completely silly in the paparazzi pics!! And we're talking about complete chicas here, try to picture what I would look like if I attempt to surf using one!

So imagine my relief when I found that:
1. Apart from net-surfing, channel-surfing, I can add another surfing skill under my belt
2. I can do it wearing a lifejacket
3. I don't look like a total troll doing #1 & #2.

Great right? This is how it all happened.

A few weekends ago, my colleagues and I went out of town to escape the curse of commodities rally, conventional gilts, libor spreads, beta and volatility, etc..I'm sure you get the picture. I was dying to go, because I've never been to a Batangas beach (haha). Plus I really wanted to try surfing, especially after my plans of white-water rafting didn't push through the week earlier. On a sunny Saturday morning, we left Manila 3 hours after our agreed time of departure. The beach was around 3-4 hour drive away from the city. It's safe to say we were completely famished by the time we got there. After going to the market(not palengke, let's not offend Jenny from the Urban Rich.hehe), we spent a few of hours cooking, eating while cooking, just eating, lounging, eating some more..basically imitating a pig's life. We were so tempted to just sleep after, because you have to understand we're tireeed. Dozing off was the only option.

But one look at the sea, ONE look, and I'm possessed by Kate Bosworth all over again..hahaha

Just minutes after my Kate B epiphany, my WINDSURFING career started officially. None other than the resort owner gave us surfing lessons. I don't remember his name. He's nice. I'm sorry. I'm bad with names. Sorry.(But then again, I dont' even remember what he taught us. Forward, Normal, Backward. Upwind. Whatever. I'm not really a good listener -goldfish in general are not good listeners.)

It's not as hard as I thought you know. Coming from the least sporty girl in the universe, this should convince you to try it. Go. If you must cross out one item on your Bucket List, try windsurfing. It's fun. Tiring. Tiring but super fun. I can't give you tips, sadly, because I only went as far as the wind took me (drama!lurve it) I know I don't sound convincing, but lookadattt pics!!!

Here's a shot of the resort's exit to the beach. I dont' remember where we stayed, but you can send me a message if you're interested, I'll look it up for you. Anyway, Batangas is such a water sports haven, I'm sure you wouldn't have a hard time looking for a place to stay at.

Total Damage? Around Php 3000(US$1=Php41 est.), that's including our room accomodations overnight, food, gas, surfing lessons, windsurfing equipment. Not bad huh?

Pop Junkie hates the Glossy Pop

I forgot to tell you a crucial info about me...

I am a complete Magazine J-U-N-K-I-E.

Yes, junkie hyphenated.

The bad habit started when I was a high school freshman. At the tender (hahaha) age of 13, I discovered the joys of reading and salivating over Seventeen Magazine (US edition, Candy Mag is not part of the 90's kid bobo-reading options). And funny , the first magazine I bought was not Seventeen but the long defunct Mirabella!

I can still remember the cover photo of my very first copy of Seventeen. Non-celebrity pale girl. Brunette with blunt, heavy bangs. High Ponytail. Wearing a turtleneck top with Missoni-like prints. I told you! I remember insignificant details. I am a total Seventeen girl! Later on though, possessed with a stronger sense of glossy fixation, I eventually switched to reading YM!!

It was during my college days when the local magazines gained popularity. Candy Mag came up, MEG came up. Suddenly, high school girls need not spend Php 300-400 to buy YM's Prom Special Edition! You had it cheap ,girls.. I was hooked on Preview Magazine at that time. There WAS something that sets this mag apart from Mega/Metro. It used to have that posh, high fasyon feel before. It was my Style Bible.
Now after almost a decade of skipping meals to finance my magazine addiction, I finally mellowed down. I can survive a month or two without buying a magazine. Thats no small feat for someone as shallow as I am. But I must say, huge credit also goes to these two:
1. Fasting does not fit my lifestyle (or food appetite) anymore. Haha. Food or Magazine? FOOOD!
2. (un)Fortunately, the magazine covers are not as attractive as they used to be. Local magazines have lost its glamour in such a short time -- at least thats what I feel.
I cant say I don't buy them anymore. In fact, when I need a glossy fix, I buy Mega or Cosmo. With the exception of Teen Vogue, local mags are my first consideration! Once in a while I still get a copy of Preview, like this month. That would be Anne Curtis on the cover, looking like Mrs Lovett (half of the population must hate it, thats probably why I bought a copy!haha) Nothing groundbreaking in this issue. But at least the cover is POP DONE TASTEFULLY! You know what I mean? In the not so distant past they featured Ruffa Mae, Jolina.. I'm sure they are nice and talented, but, a style bible cover girl? And urrrgh I'm not even going to comment on their Jan-Feb 08 cover girl. I just felt PREVIEW didnt have to join the bandwagon.
I'm all for selling more magazine. PREVIEW, MEGA, METRO, feature celebs every month if you must. Even US Vogue follow the same formula (but that's another story, another league). But please, POP covers are ok, overdoing POP is not.
Peace.
